In the Senedd today, James Evans MS called for a Ministerial statement on sheep deaths caused by dogs.
Evans said that two sheep in the past week have died due to owners letting their dogs off leads, and asked, “what is the Welsh Government is doing to tackle this issue to make sure that our farmers do not lose livestock to dog attacks during this very busy period for them?”
Responding, Lesley Griffiths, Rural Affairs Minister, called for “responsible ownership by people with dogs” and pointed to funding that the rural crime commissioner received to look at this issue.
James said:
“This is something that will seriously worry farmers in our area.
“It’s a very busy period for them, and dog attacks on livestock are hugely damaging.
“Dog owners do need to be responsible, and I want to see Welsh Government taking action to help combat dog attacks.”
