Earlier this year, a decision was taken for a number of Powys County Council meetings to be held online but with no livestream provided for the press or public to watch.
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request by the Local Democracy Reporting Service has found this decision was made by unelected council staff (the Executive Management Team) and not elected members.
James Evans MS said:
“It’s concerning that this decision was taken by unelected officials, and equally concerning that the current Lib Dem-run council don’t seem bothered by it.
“It’s essential that members of the public and media are able to watch meetings so they can fully scrutinise what politicians are doing – an important part of our democratic process.”
