James Evans MS, Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing met with TV personality Dr Alex George to discuss improving young people’s mental health in Wales.
Dr Alex George is a Welsh physician and television personality who serves as the UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador within the Department for Education.
As part of his Shadow Cabinet brief James Evans is focussed on highlighting the need to improve access to mental health provision for children and young people in Wales.
James Evans, Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing said:
“It was hugely beneficial to meet with Dr Alex and chat about the challenges facing young people across the UK and, how in Wales we need to do more to help young people with accessing mental health provision.”
“I have established a young person’s mental health group so I can hear first-hand the challenges facing young people in Wales. We are working towards creating a raft of effective policy proposals to bring about meaningful change.”
“Dr Alex was supportive of the ideas that we discussed and I look forward to discussing our policy proposals with Dr Alex in the future.”
Dr Alex George said:
"As Youth Mental Health Ambassador I believe that when we are looking at caring for young people, and looking at what young people need, it is absolutely vital that they are involved in the conversation. We live in an ever changing world where many pressures are placed on young people and social media has grown immensely, so we need to hear about the support that is needed directly from them. I am excited to hear from young people about their recommendations and understand what we can do to further support them."
