James Evans MS leads debate on the importance of Welsh Farming.
Today in the Senedd, James Evans MS brought forward a Senedd motion highlighting the importance of Welsh Farming and the critical role it plays in the Welsh economy, culture and sustainability. Concerns were raised about Welsh Labour’s proposed Sustainable Farming Scheme and its potentially devastating impact on farmers livelihoods and on our nation’s food security.
Commenting after the debate, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs, James Evans MS:
“Welsh farmers are the backbone of our rural communities, underpinning our national prosperity and today was a welcome opportunity to highlight their importance.”
“It was disappointing that the Welsh Labour voted against the Welsh Conservative motion. The many farmers I have spoken to are all clear that any new scheme must include all active farmers, be more flexible in its approach and less bureaucratic for the farmer, working with the industry not against it. Sustainability and food security are vital for everyone in Wales. To put it simply, no farmers no food.”
