James Evans MS questions what dental treatment will be provided by new mobile unit.
Further to Powys Teaching Health Board's announcement of a new temporary community dental service for Hay on Wye, James Evans MS has written to the Health Board to clarify what services this mobile unit can cover.
James Evans MS said:
“I welcome this initiative to provide more NHS dental cover in Powys. However, we have been told this mobile unit will provide a ‘range of core dental services’ but I am concerned that this will mean only check ups and basic treatments with patients having to be referred on to access further dental procedures at a later date.
"Whilst I think a mobile unit is a great idea for traveling to specific sites like Schools/Care Homes etc, a mobile unit by its very nature will have its limitations and I am surprised the Health Board could not secure the use of their own permanent buildings to be able to offer a full range of dental treatments. We will have to wait and see how many patients this mobile unit will treat over the next 3 months and how it will manage to operate in harsh winter weather.
“I urge anyone without an NHS dentist to register on the Powys Teaching Health Board’s waiting list by phoning 01686 252 808.”
