Following the announcement of Welsh Labour’s Local Government Settlement, James Evans MS is bitterly disappointed that rural Wales is set to lose out yet again.
The funding formula released today (11/12) shows Powys County Council is 21st out of the 22 Local Authority areas in respect of the funding settlement. Cardiff, and Newport Councils are set to receive the biggest share of new funding – yet again showing how Mid Wales has been neglected by Welsh Labour.
James Evans MS said:
“Welsh Labour’s latest funding settlement makes for grim reading for Powys County Council who are last but one from the bottom of the table in respect of their funding for the next financial year. This is yet again a blow for the residents of Mid Wales, and further shows the contempt they hold for rural Wales.
“Welsh Labour need the support of one opposition member of the Senedd to pass their budget. If the sole Liberal Democrat, Jane Dodds MS, were to strike another deal with the Welsh Government and support this budget to allow it to pass, her true colours and thoughts on rural Wales will firmly be on show.
“Welsh Labour’s budget is disastrous for Mid Wales. The so-called increases for Local Government services such as Schools will be swallowed up by the NI and wage increases and will have minimal impact on the large deficits many Schools are already facing.”
