Speaking after the Cabinet Secretary for Transport’s statement on transforming the Welsh railway network, James Evans MS, Senedd Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:
“The statement today by Ken Skates MS says that Transport for Wales ‘delivers a better more reliable service’ but he clearly hasn’t had to catch a train in my constituency. I hear repeatedly from residents about delays, cancelled trains and timetable reductions for the Heart of Wales line to Shrewsbury.
“The people of Brecon & Radnorshire are not benefitting from the millions of pounds being ploughed into the South Wales Metro – but the exact opposite. We are seeing cuts to both train and bus services at a time when we should be expanding public transport. TFW has been bailed out by the Labour Government to the tune of £125m, lost £300m last year, has the worst customer satisfaction ratings in the UK and had more than a million minutes worth of delays over the past year. It is plain to see that Labour are delusional when it comes to the rail service that they own and operate.
“I have repeatedly asked Transport for Wales officials to come to Llandrindod Wells to answer questions from residents and train users about the planned reduction in services, but as of yet they have not committed to a date.”
