Today, James Evans MS ran 5km at the Groe Parkrun in Builth Wells, to mark the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service.
Reflecting on his participation, James said.
“It was great to have so many people turn out for the Parkrun on Saturday to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS. It gave everyone the opportunity to show their appreciation for our doctors, nurses, paramedics, clinicians, and support staff who work tirelessly to see to some of our most vulnerable in society. Following on from the COVI-19 Pandemic and with a sever cost of living crisis hitting a number of our health care professionals, it also allowed for us to highlight much of the work they do by chatting about our personal experiences of the NHS and the vital role it plays in keeping our communities safe.”
James goes on to add.
“Taking part in Saturday’s parkrun and indeed any future parkrun is a fantastic way to enjoy physical exercise in our local communities. Wales is currently facing an obesity crisis, with more than 600,000 people in Wales classified as obese and 1 in 8 children up to the age of 5 classified as obese. I hope that by participating in Parkrun this weekend, I’ve been able to promote how accessible and fun undertaking an hour of physical exercise can be within friends and family and the benefits it can have in preventing future health care problems. If we’re to have a healthier, fitter nation, it starts with educating some of our most deprived citizens on the benefits of making simple lifestyle changes. In turn, our NHS will be able to be more flexible and readily available to work with communities on preventative healthcare plans.”
James Evans MS shares his warm appreciation for the NHS on its Birthday and will continue to work tirelessly on delivering specialist care unites for mental health and eating disorders in his constituency. Following a number of cases where local constituents have had to travel as far as Scotland for treatment, James is keen to ensure that services can be provided locally.
